Film Workshops – Cinematic Expression

Film Workshop - Cinematic Expression at Universal Studios

The Film Workshop demonstrates an original and unique method for converting previsualized film scenes into live images. It accomplishes this without the need for video support. The process refers to translating the imagined film scene’s mood and style into predetermined light meter values. Before the advent of video assist, cinematographers relied solely on the mind’s image as their primary reference. The Film Expression Workshop follows the logic of the creative process practiced by legendary cinematographers. Just like a painter who brings an idea to canvas, the workshop translates the mind’s images into the language of film. The result is real-time, exact reflection of the mind’s image.

The technique presents several key advantages:

  • Saves time by eliminating the need for video monitor improvisations
  • Maintains and safeguards the cinematographer’s original vision
  • Minimizes the need for extensive post-production adjustments
  • Allows instant comparison of the result with the original idea via real-time video playback
  • Supports the development of a distinctive personal style in cinematic expression

Film Expression workshop is designed for the beginning and working cinematographers. If you are interested in my offerings, please feel free to contact me about any questions or further details.
